Chippewa Bay, NY - Singer Castle opened this weekend for the 2006 season. In spite of the inclement weather, returning members of the Castle staff were on hand to make sure all was in readiness for the first tour of the year. General Manager Thomas Weldon along with Chris
Henry, Manager of the Gift Shop have been joined by Kaitlin Murphy, Wedding Coordinator, Scott Garris, Caretaker, Lizzie Grater, Jacob Tague, Kyle Marshall, and three siblings from the Sheridan family James, Krista and Sarah who have all returned to make sure that visitors to the Castle have an enjoyable and educational experience while on Dark Island.

On Saturday, May 20th at 3:30 p.m., Island Wanderer from Uncle Sam Boat Tours arrived at Singer Castle’s South Boat Dock with a group of enthusiastic tourists ready to brave the weather to see the Castle. They were greeted by the friendly Island staff and divided in to smaller tour groups of 15-20 persons. Each group, accompanied by a guide and an assistant guide, was then led on a 45-minute long tour of many of Singer Castle’s twenty-eight rooms including the Royal Suite, the library, Frederick Bourne’s suite, turrets, dungeons, and secret passageways. Guests also had the opportunity to hear about the newly renovated squash courts, North Boat House, Pergola, the greens where weddings are held, and the Indian Walk through pines and evergreens. At the end of their tour the group passed through the Island’s well-stocked Gift Shop on the way back to the Island Wander.

Island Wanderer pulled away from the dock, went a short way, made a turn and then passed in front of the Castle as it headed up river to return to Alexandria Bay. On the ship’s return pass the assembled staff waved farewell to the departing guests.
