"The New York Detour Stops at Singer Castle"
<back>
On Thursday, June 16, 2006, travel writer Bruce Northam and his crew visited St. Lawrence County as part of his Detour New York Tour. Early that morning he hopped a shuttle out of Blind Bay Marina captained by Bryan Gedbaw and Ken Belfield and then rode upriver to Dark Island where he toured the Singer Castle and visited with staff members who enjoyed their time with the Detour New York group.

Mr. Northam’s on-line journal reminiscences about his visit to Singer Castle and his shuttle trip to Dark Island are now posted on the I Love New York website: www.iloveny.com/detour. In the journal for June 16th he writes extensively about Singer Castle and its history and livens his story with quotes from Captain Bryan Gedbaw. Further along on his journey through New York during a stop in Saratoga Springs, Northram was quoted in The Saratogian as saying that “one of his favorite stops was the 1,000 Island’s 29-room Singer Castle…..”

In addition to running the blog, the I Love New York website mentions that all of Mr. Northram’s stops in New York are being filmed for development into a future television series.
